TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

Jesuit Dallas is No. 15 in the state according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) with a 5-0 record. The Rangers upended Plano East, 53-51 on Nov. 28, withstanding a late charge from the Panthers to keep their unbeaten start to the year intact. Returning all-district selections Reid Hatzmann, Michael Jankovich and Marcus Hill, the Rangers aim for their first tournament title since 2012.

Tascosa is currently 4-1 heading into the weekend, aiming to secure its second tournament title in three years after a first round loss to Midway last winter. The Rebels return 2016-17 UIL District 2-6A Newcomer of the Year King Doerue. On Tuesday, Tascosa defeated Plainview, 59-94, recovering from a 65-38 setback against Amarillo on Nov. 21.

South Hills will arrive at Jesuit Dallas looking for its first win of the season. Currently owners of an 0-3 record, the Scorpions fell to Brewer, 56-30, on Nov. 28 in their final pre-tournament warmup. Losing their two all-district players to graduation, head coach Drew Bell will turn to a roster consisting of five juniors and four seniors.

Lone Star is currently 2-4, recording a 1-3 mark last week at its home tournament, defeating Creekview 50-40 before dropping decisions to Mount Pleasant, Mesquite Horn and OKC Storm. Sophomore Julian Larry, last year's District 13-5A Newcomer of the Year, returns alongside All-District First Team pick Nick Bolton. Last year, Lone Star finished third at the tournament after securing a 54-51, first round win over Mesquite.

MacArthur scored its first win of the season, 66-50, against The Colony to garner some momentum heading into Thursday's first round clash against St. Ignatius. Sophomore and 2017 District 7-6A Freshman Most Valuable Player Blake Burris returns for head coach Toby Martin, helping anchor a young roster with one senior, six juniors, three sophomores and one freshman.

St. Ignatius arrives in Dallas from California after dropping a 60-43 decision to Las Lomas at the Newark Tip-Off Classic. Last season, the Wildcats advanced to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division III Semifinal, entering the tournament one of the regional top seeds.

Memorial returns one all-district selection from a team that qualified for last year's UIL 5A Basketball Tournament while entering the tournament with a 4-5 record. The Minutemen hope to snap a two-game skid against Jesuit on Thursday, last capturing a 61-63 win over St. Augustine on Nov. 18.

Mesquite aims to repeat a tournament title game run in 2015, but will need to avenge a first round loss to the Frisco Lone Star Rangers last season in its first round matchup. Skeeters head coach Brian Curts welcomes back three all-district selections, highlighted by first-team designee Aaron Sanders. Mesquite is currently 1-5, its lone win of the season a 77-71 triumph over Little Elm.
