Jesuit Dallas secured its first UIL District 9-6A title of the 2014-15 season over the weekend as the cross country team put on a dominating performance at Norbuck Park in Dallas. The Rangers swept the podium by winning first, second and third place, while Jesuit also had five of the district's top seven runners. The varsity team advances to the UIL Region II Championship, held Saturday, Nov. 1, at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
Sophomore Connor O'Neill secured the individual title with a dominating time of 16:03 in the 5k race. Junior Connor Garvey secured the silver with a time of 16:56, while his brother John Garvey finished close behind in third place at 17:02. Senior Michael Spamer (17:20) and sophomore Gus Baldwin (17:34) came in sixth and seventh, respectively, while sophomore Miles Burrow (17:30) finished ninth.
"This is a proud moment for the boys," head coach Doug Robinson said of the team's second consecutive district title. "One of our goals for the year was to defend the district championship, and we always want to uphold the tradition that teams before us have established. We really take pride in this championship."
The top four teams from each regional meet will advance to the UIL State Championship in Round Rock, while the top 10 individual finishers from each region also have a chance to qualify.
The Rangers also defended their JV district crown, as seven of the meet's top 10 JV finishers wore the Blue and Gold. Nick Lorocco won the JV individual title and classmate James Butterfield came in third. A pack of Rangers finished together, giving Jesuit 11 of the top 14 overall finishes.
