Brendan Feehery and senior
Nolan Daniels each won three events, but it took a total team effort for Jesuit to secure the UIL District 9-6A Swimming & Diving Championship, winning by one point over rival Highland Park. The title is Jesuit's second district championship of the 2014-15 school year.
Feehery was recognized as the District 9-6A Swimmer of the Meet. He started the day by setting the District 9-6A record in the 200 yard individual medley (1:53.57), earning first place and beating the closest competition by nearly six seconds. Jesuit had four of the top eight swimmers in the event, including strong performances from
Michael Boyson,
Jack Matthews, and
Sharwin Yogeswaran. In the very next event, the 50 yard freestyle, Jesuit swept the podium, led by
Nolan Daniels, who set a District 9-6A record for the event with a 21.79. Sophomore
Jack Ayres and junior
Aedan Quinn placed second and third.
Daniels, Ayres, and Quinn once again dominated the 100 yard freestyle, placing first, third, and fourth. The group then teamed up for the 200 yard freestyle relay, and along with Feehery, placed first with a time of 1:29.02. Feehery then took first in the 100 yard breaststroke (59.46), sealing the Jesuit victory.
The Rangers also got strong performances from
Roberto Denegri,
Noah Nguyen, and
Luke Theivagt, who along with Boyson earned four the of the top five spots in the 100 yard butterfly. Theivagt, a freshman, also placed second in the 1 meter diving competition.
Six other Rangers earned points and earned a trip to next week's Region 3-6A meet: senior
Parker Capron (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle); senior
R.J. Stempak (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay); sophomore
Timothy Bedard (500 freestyle); sophomore
William Henrion (200 freestyle); freshman
Charles Day (500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay); and freshman
Lucas Raney (1 meter diving).
Jesuit won the meet by a score of 198-197 over Highland Park.
Head Coach Doug Moyse was also recognized as Boys District 9-6A Coach of the Year. The Region 3-6A Meet takes place Friday, February 6, and Saturday, February 7, at the
Rockwall ISD Aquatics Center. The following Rangers have qualified for the regional meet:
