Game 1: Jesuit 4 - Mesquite 3 [
Box Score]
Senior
Darius Hill hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to give Jesuit a 4-3 lead and catapult the Rangers to a victory in Game 1 of the Bi-District series with the Mesquite Skeeters Thursday evening. Hill notched three RBIs on the day, while sophomore
Jacob Palisch got the win on the mound in relief.
Â
Game 2 of the three game series takes place at Jesuit's Wright Field on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.Â
In Game 1, junior
Kyle Muller worked 5.1 innings and struck out eight before turning the ball over to
JJ Montenegro in the sixth. Montenegro got one key out, then Palisch entered to close the door on the Skeeters. Offensively Jesuit had a slow night, registering just six hits in seven innings.
Â
After a scoreless first four innings, catcher
Bryce Bonner hit a leadoff double in the fifth then scored on a
Mark Ready single.
Austin Sheahan scored three batters later on a Hill sacrifice fly, and the Rangers took a 2-0 lead. Mesquite responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to three singles and three free passes. Trailing going into the seventh, Jesuit got started with back-to-back walks to
Cameron Dobbs and
JT Mix. After both Dobbs and Mix advanced on a wild pitch, Hill knocked a 2-1 pitch to centerfield to plate both runners. Palisch came back to the bump in the bottom of the seventh with a 4-3, and retired the side on a strikeout, a pop out, and a groundout.
Â
The Rangers now prepare to face Mesquite again in Game 2 Friday night. Jesuit is
ranked No. 3 in the nation by MaxPreps, and won its
sixth consecutive district championship this year after an undefeated district slate. The winner of the Jesuit/Mesquite series will go on to play the winner of Waco Midway and Rowlett in the Area Round.
