Jesuit scored runs in each of the first three innings Thursday night en route to a 3-1 victory in Game 1 of the UIL Regional Final against Oak Ridge. The Rangers also got a solid pitching performance from senior
Harrison Folk, who allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings of work in the game, held at Sam Houston State University in Brownsville. Jesuit is now one win away from taking the series and advancing to its first ever UIL State Championship Tournament.
Â
Senior
Nic Ready hit a seemingly harmless two out, two strike single in the top of the first inning, then stole second to create a scoring threat. Ready then came around to score on a
Kyle Muller single to give Jesuit a 1-0 lead. In the second, junior
Bryce Bonner hit a leadoff double and sophomore J.T. Mix entered as a courtesy runner. Mix advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a
Zach Shepherd sacrifice fly. The Rangers scored another in the third after senior
Darius Hill singled to center and moved around to third on an error and a stolen base. Muller then earned his second RBI of the night on a single to center to give Jesuit a 3-0 lead.
Â
Muller and Bonner each went 2-for-3 on the evening, while
Chase Jennings was 3-for-3 at the plate. Oak Ridge scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth, but Folk got out of a jam thanks to a play at the plate to eliminate the second run. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, sophomore
Jacob Palisch entered and struck out Michael Lawson on a full count to earn the save.
Â
The Rangers and War Hawks now travel north to Prosper High School for Game 2 of the series, held Friday night at 7:00 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 would be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Prosper.
