**First 100 Jesuit students recieve a free Jimmy John's coupon!** Jesuit Soccer won its tenth straight game Saturday with a 1-0 win over R.L. Turner, and clinched the District 9-6A Championship. This is Jesuit's third UIL District Championship of the 2014-15 year, as soccer joins
Cross Country and
Swimming & Diving in winning District 9-6A.
Â
The Rangers (14-4-3, 11-1-2 District 9-6A) will face Mesquite (9-8-3, 6-7-1 District 10-6A) in the first round of the UIL playoffs on Thursday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Postell Stadium. Jesuit Soccer has made the playoffs every year during the school's 12 year stint in the UIL.
Â
The Rangers clinched the district title early Saturday morning, as the season's final game against R.L. Turner was delayed from its initial Friday night scheduled start. Junior
Patrick Howell scored the game's only goal, off an assist from senior
Collin Stack, with 10 minutes left in the second half. It was Jesuit's tenth consecutive win after starting district play with a 1-1-2 record. Six of the ten wins were shutouts, a testament not only to goalkeepers
Collin Buechel and
Luke Ostrander, but defenders like
Jacob Su,
Jon Balok,
Ramiro Garcia, and others.
Â
"Even after a slow start, the boys never lost confidence in themselves, and this ten game winning streak really showed that," said head coach Charlie DeLong. "This is one of the nicest, hardest-working group of young men I've ever coached."
Â
The Dallas Morning News has Jesuit ranked No. 9 in the area, however each of the top eight ranked teams compete in Region I, while the Rangers compete in Region II. In the UIL, Region I includes Districts 1-8, which encompasses teams from El Paso, West Texas, and the western/northern portions of DFW. Region II includes Districts 9-16, which begins in eastern/southern DFW, and stretches south to include central Texas schools such as Austin, Round Rock, and Killeen, and some far north Houston-area suburbs like Klein and The Woodlands. Jesuit sits near the dividing line, which means the biennial UIL realignment can affect both district and regional assignments.
Â
Jesuit will take on Mesquite in the first round, titled the UIL Bi-District Round. The game will be held Thursday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Postell Stadium. The first 100 Jesuit student in attendance will recieve free Jimmy John's coupons. The game will also be broadcast live at
