Map to Hanby StadiumJesuit Track & Field won its fourth consecutive district title this week, earning the fifth District 9-6A Championship of the year for the Blue & Gold. Strong performances in field events and distance races carried Jesuit to a convincing victory; Jesuit scored 201 points at the District Meet at Postell Stadium, outpacing second place Skyline, which scored 141 points.
Junior
Shawn Regan took gold in the high jump (6 ft. 2 in.) and long jump (21 ft. 2.75 in.), while sophomore
Connor O'Neill won the individual title in the 1600 (4:29.97) and the 3200 (9:38.78). Jesuit distance runners placed 1-2-3 in the 3200 and 1-2-4 in the 1600. Junior
Connor Garvey earned silver medals in both events (4:31.88 in the mile, 9:42.00 in the 3200), while his brother
Sam Garvey finished third in the 3200 (9:51.40) and fourth in the 1600 (4:41.13). Jesuit earned 46 points from those two events alone.
The Rangers also won first, second, and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles, led by senior
Matt Helm who took the individual title with a time of 40.95. Junior
Ethan Brownlee came in second at 42.14, while fellow junior
Joey Parks took third at 43.27.
Jesuit dominated the field events, scoring over 100 points thanks to field performances alone.
Jack Whelan and
Dan Carver went 1-2 in the pole vault, each jumping a height of 12 ft. 6 in., while
Jake Elrod tied for third at 11 ft. 0 in. Senior
Adam Bartlett won the discus throw with a launch of 158 ft. 7 in., and also came in second in the shot put at 53 ft. 9 in.
Nmesoma Nwafor,
Ben Metzler, and
Enrique Rodriguez also registered points for Jesuit in those events. The Rangers won first, second, and fourth in the long jump as well: Regan earned gold,
Chris Cantrell earned silver (19 ft. 11.5 in.), and
Calvin Fields registered key points in fourth (19 ft. 8 in.).
Jesuit also won the JV District Meet, scoring a total of 142 points, well ahead of second place Skyline with 113. Sophomore
Miles Burrow won first in both the 3200 and the 1600, while classmate
James McClure took second in the 3200 and third in the 1600. Other JV individual winners included
Vance Holub (shot put),
Marlin Walkup (discus), and
Bobby Turner (pole vault).
Sixteen Rangers qualified for the Area Meet, to be held Friday, April 24, at

The championship was Jesuit's sixth District 9-6A title of the school year, as Track & Field joins
soccer,
swimming and diving,
golf,
tennis, and
cross country.
